It’s summer in Howard County, but that does not mean that learning needs to come to a screeching halt once the kids are out of school. Did you know that math isn't just something that lives in our classroom? It's all around us, hiding in plain sight, ready to make every day an adventure!
At Your Journey Nursery & Preschool we’re here to help parents and caregivers turn playtime, meal prep, grocery shopping, and even car rides into super-fun math missions!
Playtime Mission: Counting Champs!
Building Blocks: How many blocks can you stack before they topple? Can you sort them by color or size?
Stuffed Animal Roundup: How many furry friends do you have? Can you line them up in a row and count them by twos?
Board Game Bonanza: Roll the dice, count the spaces you move, and see who can reach the finish line first!
Meal Prep Mission: Mixing Up Math!
Pizza Party: How many slices of pizza are there? Can you cut it in half, then in fourths?
Cookie Chaos: Help decorate those cookies! How many sprinkles do you need for each one? Can you arrange them in a fun pattern?
Fruity Fun: Sorting fruit by color is a blast! How many apples do we have? Are there more grapes or oranges?
Grocery Shopping Mission: Shopping Savvy!
Treasure Hunt: Make a shopping list with pictures (or words your little one can read!) Find all the items on the list – how many things did you get?
Comparing Champions: Which cereal box is bigger? How much does this milk cost compared to that one?
Shape Detectives: Look for circles on cereal boxes, squares on crackers, and triangles on cheese slices!
Car Ride Mission: Window Whizzes!
Counting Cars: See how many red cars you can spot, then blue ones, then yellow ones!
Shape Safari: Can you find a cloud shaped like a rectangle? What about a house with a triangular roof?
Traffic Time: Count the traffic lights you pass by. How many times does the light turn red, yellow, and green?
